Campus Status: The University will be open on Thursday, March 19, with employees working remotely (facilities will remain closed).

Currently, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, connected with UMBC.

For the most updated information and more information on actions to reduce COVID-19 risks in our community, please visit COVID19.umbc.edu

Student Services and Support
  • The University System of Maryland understands students have financial concerns regarding housing, dining, and other expenses and provided an update. We are working through the process to make this happen.
  • Student employees should work with their supervisor to determine if they can work remotely. Student employees who cannot work remotely will remain in paid status.
  • True Grits will serve lunch (10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and dinner (4:30 to 6:30 p.m.). All food will be served in to-go containers and must be eaten elsewhere.
  • The library will be closed until further notice. If you need access to library services, please let us know at covid19@umbc.edu.
  • University Health Services will be open Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. by appointment only. No one will be allowed entry into the clinic without a telephone pre-screening. Please call 410-455-2542. The Counseling Center will be providing students with crisis support remotely via Webex and phone from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please call 410-455-2472.
Academic Continuity
  • Online instruction will begin on March 23. Resources for students and faculty can be found here.
  • The Academic Success Center will continue to provide all services through alternative formats during the campus response to COVID-19. Information is available here.

Business Continuity and Staff Support
  • Human Resources continues to provide updated guidance on telework and leave.
  • At this time, the mail room will be open each work day from 8 a.m. to noon. Please call ahead 443-612-2273.
  • The State of Maryland has alerted the University that only critical payments will be processed during this time. Purchases made during this time must be mission critical or essential for research. The Paw procurement system and the p-card will continue to be used for these transactions, but purchasers must contact Elizabeth Moss (emoss@umbc.edu) to coordinate the process. Recurring monthly p-card payments, such as for copiers or advertising, should continue to be made.

Facilities
  • We understand that a small number of faculty and staff may need to access their offices. If you need to do so, please call UMBC Police at 410-455-5555. Visits should be very limited.
  • UMBC transit is operating but on a reduced schedule. Hours are available here.

If you have questions or concerns, please email COVID19@umbc.edu
