Commitment to care, safety, integrity, and compliance
Dear UMBC Community,
Today, The Baltimore Sun published an article focused on UMBC's Title IX compliance and a related Department of Justice investigation.
As your new president, I would like to share with you where I stand. First, I am deeply concerned about our students and our entire community, and I am committed to the highest standards of care, safety, integrity, and compliance.
We have and will continue to cooperate fully with the Department of Justice in their investigation. We will share updates with our community as we are able.
During our Convocation Ceremony August 30, I pledged to work alongside you to continue building a community where sexual violence and misconduct are never acceptable. We will address reports that come to us and continue the work of education and care. I am grateful for all of you who share this vital mission.
Our Office of Equity and Inclusion website provides a variety of on- and off-campus resources for community members. I am committed to leading with the courage required in this moment as we reach to more fully realize our vision of inclusive excellence.
