Updates on Campus Hot Water Outage, Lasting Through The Week
Dear UMBC Community,
We continue to make repairs to our campus hot water system and expect this work to go on for the remainder of the week. Unfortunately, the repair process also makes it necessary to turn off the hot water and heating systems to several additional buildings.
Currently affected buildings without hot water include: The Administration Building, Retriever Activities Center, University Center, Engineering Building, Information Technology/Engineering Building, Math/Psychology Building, Sondheim Hall, and Sherman Hall.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 19, at 3:30 p.m., hot water will be turned off to the following additional buildings: Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery, Erickson Hall, Public Policy, Physics, Biology/Schwartz, the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building, and The Commons.
Most affected buildings will see decreases in temperature and will not have hot water. The Commons and Erickson Hall will retain limited amounts of hot water. We are working with building managers to support academic, research, and student life operations as normally as possible. Buildings remain open as usual and classes will continue as scheduled. Bathrooms will remain functional with cold water available.
Dining updates include:
Dining locations in the Commons, the Admin Coffee Shop, and Starbucks will be open as usual.
Chick-Fil-A will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Einstein's Bagels will be closed, beginning Wednesday, until hot water is restored.
We continue to monitor the temperature in buildings and are working with building staff to make sure operations can continue effectively and safely. Given the falling temperatures, please plan ahead when you come to campus by bringing extra clothing layers. Staff should continue to work with their supervisors to work remotely if needed.
We will update the campus as soon as hot water is restored and appreciate your support as our teams execute this complicated repair to a core campus system.
