Update on the Work of the Inclusion Council’s Implementation
Sharing the Team’s Final Report
Dear UMBC Community,
I write today to share with you the final report and recommendations of the Inclusion Council's Implementation Team. The group's work was long in the making, building from the Inclusion Council's formation in June 2020 to provide advice and guidance to the Office of Equity and Inclusion. An Implementation Team was formed in April 2022 to carry forward the work of advancing equity and inclusion, and its final report was shared amid the presidential transition of last summer.
That report is now available on the Inclusion Council's website, and I encourage you all to read it. The report offers helpful guidance and perspective on the work ahead and a solid foundation on which to build, in particular as the Office of Equity and Inclusion evolves and develops under the leadership of Vice President Tanyka Barber.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to the Inclusion Council and the Implementation Team, especially Inclusion Council co-chairs Jasmine A. Lee, director of Inclusive Excellence, Student Affairs; and Carole McCann, professor and chair, Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies. Carole served also as the chair of the Implementation Team. Their collective efforts and dedication are helping to advance our shared vision for inclusive excellence at UMBC.
Sincerely,
President Valerie Sheares Ashby
