Sad News for the Campus Community
Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
I write with deep sadness and regret to inform our community that rising junior Nicholas Bartko passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Nick, as he was known to family and friends, studied computer science and was a resident of Harbor Hall this past academic year. He was an involved Retriever who played rugby and loved being a Woolie Welcome Week Leader, a group he joined in his sophomore year. He is survived by his parents Robin and Dennis, brother, Noah, and sister, Christina, also a recent UMBC alumna.
Viewing services for Mr. Bartko will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 3 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at MeadowRidge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD, 21075. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4795 Ilchester Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21043.
Community members who need support in light of this sad news are encouraged to contact University Counseling Services at 410-455-2472 or through the University Counseling Services website.
I know you will join me in keeping Nick, his family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers.
