Sad News for the UMBC Community

Dear Members of the UMBC Community,

It is with great sadness that we report that Benjamin Pioso, a senior majoring in Chemistry and Mathematics at UMBC, passed away from a seizure on June 26, 2019. Ben’s friends will remember his limitless talent, humor, and plans for a bright future. He was committed to finishing his studies while coping with multiple significant medical problems — tragically, without success. Ben was grateful for the opportunity to study at UMBC and cherished many friends, professors, and staff members.

If you would like to make a donation in Ben's memory, his parents request that you consider the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Epilepsy Foundation, or a charity of your choosing.

Community members who need support in light of this sad news are encouraged to contact University Counseling Services at 410-455-2472.

I know you will join me in keeping Ben, his family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Nancy Young, Vice President for Student Affairs
