Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Leave Provisions Extended

Families First Coronavirus Response Act Leave Provisions Extended Until June 30, 2021

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) provides certain employees with paid leave (Emergency Paid Sick Leave, EPSL; and Emergency Family Medical Leave, EFML) for specific reasons related to COVID-19. Upon the implementation of FFCRA on April 1, 2020, the leave provisions were applicable until December 31, 2020.

Due to the continued and anticipated impact of COVID-19 in Maryland, the University System of Maryland (USM) approved the extension of FFCRA leave until June 30, 2021. The provisions of FFCRA will not change; the extension provides employees an opportunity to use FFCRA leave if there is a FFCRA-related need. Employees will not receive additional hours of leave. If Congress amends the provisions of FFCRA that are related to paid sick leave and family and medical leave prior to June 30, 2021, this guidance will cease to be effective to the extent that it conflicts with Congress' amendments and we will provide updated guidance.

For detailed information about FFCRA and its provisions, please refer to the FFCRA page on the Human Resources website. Questions regarding this guidance or the FFCRA may be directed to covid19hrresponseteam@umbc.edu.
